This video is taken during the trip upstream to Ulu Skrang. When the river is shallow, the locals struggle (berbatak, bersuar) to shove the boat in order for the boat not to be stuck on the rocks. It needs incredible strength to do just that. If that was me, my whole body would be sore by the time we reach our destination.
Notice the boat infront...the one who is shoving the boat (the blue shirt) thru shallow water is a lady. Can you imagine how difficult it is for her to push the boat with all her strength. This are the typical scenario in the Skrang river during the dry season as the river is their means of transportation to and from their longhouse. There is a logging road but no maintenance done by the logger so if you don't have a 4x4 wheel drive experience, don't even attempt to use the road because it is dangerous as well as very slippery and you might end up as a statistic.
The government recently announced that the road along the Skrang river will be built and it is supposedly reach Panchor in Ulu Skrang. If materialize, that road will definitely ease the transportation issues especially during the dry season. So all YBs, minister, parliment representative take note on this matter as we want this road project to kick off soon for the benefit of the people of Ulu Skrang.
